In our previous article the logistics of transporting the finished cranes after production. In some cases, crane components are considered oversized due to their size or weight exceeding standard values and are subject to special rules. These are designed to maintain transport safety and protect road infrastructure. Many loads may justify oversized transport: machinery, transformers, reinforced concrete elements, steel structures, tanks and silos, CNC machines, plasma cutter machinery and other equipment.
Prior notification
In the case of oversized loads, transport companies must obtain a permit for the transport, which specifies the route, the time and the type of vehicles to be used.
The authorisation process starts with the prior notification of the transport of oversized loads.
As the licence is issued by the transport authority, the notification must also be made to that authority. Based on the notification, the parameters and potential impacts of the transport are considered during the authorisation process.
The precise and applicable provisions are set out in the 36/2017 (IX. 18.) NFM Decree included.
The authorisation process
The process of obtaining a licence can often be time-consuming, as the transport authority must consider all aspects in order to ensure that the transport does not compromise traffic safety and causes the least possible disruption.
When issuing permits, the transport authority takes into account the size and weight of the load, the planned route of the journey and the type of transport vehicle or vehicles.
These vehicles must comply with the technical requirements and undergo regular roadworthiness tests.
The authority will also take into account the time of year and time of day, visibility and expected weather conditions when issuing the permit.
At the end of the process, the transport authority issues a permit setting out the parameters of the journey. Failure to do so may result in the transport of oversized goods not being carried out correctly and the carrier being fined.
This is a cost that can be avoided by obtaining the right permit. What it is not: the cost of the shipment, as specified in the licence oversize and overweight fee, which must be paid before the start of the journey, and the cost of special insurance.
Special accompaniment
As oversized loads often obstruct traffic and increase the risk of accidents, mainly because of their size, transport should take as little time as possible, and in certain cases, the transport authority may make the transport of oversized and heavy loads subject to the use of special escort vehicles.
These escort vehicles are equipped with special signs and in some cases special markings.
Their role is both to warn other road users of the arrival of an oversized load and to ensure that the speed limits for oversized loads are respected.
So when a larger toronydarut we see working on a construction site, it's also worth thinking about how it got there and how complicated the process was.
