Plasma cutting technology
A plasma cutting is a thermal cutting process, during which a high-temperature electric arc, known as a plasma arc, with a temperature exceeding 10,000°C, is formed between the material to be machined and the plasma cutting electrode. As a result, the material to be machined and cut melts at the cutting point, across the entire thickness of the material.
The slag produced during cutting contributes to the formation of the plasma arc., faster than the speed of sound, compressed air, oxygen, nitrogen, nitrogen-hydrogen, argon-hydrogen, or possibly a mixture of methane. The plasma cutter is a power converter with a high-voltage output, which excites the atoms of the cutting gas with the high DC voltage generated and brings them into a plasma state.
During plasma cutting no chemical reactions take place, no heat-generating process takes place, which is why plasma cutting is a perfectly suitable cutting method for a wide range of raw materials with thicknesses between 0.5 and 150 millimetres.
