The test shall be carried out under the conditions specified in the instructions for use and under the operating conditions can be performed on a lifting device ready for operation.

The investigation can only be started, if the test results of the contact protection and insulation resistance measurements in the test report book or the test results of safety devices and structures (e.g. hydraulic components) subject to special measurement procedures are in conformity with the requirements.

The test must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation, the instructions for use and the standards laying down the technical requirements for the lifting machinery.

The no-load tests after a favourable result, the mandatory sequence of load tests is static, stiffness and dynamic. Any test may be started only if the previous test has been passed with a favourable result.

Tests that do not need to be carried out, which have been previously documented and have not been followed by any changes to the lifting machinery which affect the terms and conditions or the results of the previous declaration or certificate.

During the static test the lifting machinery must be loaded to 1,25 times its nominal capacity, unless other requirements specify a test load greater than this. The load shall be lifted to a height of 100 to 200 mm and held in this position for at least 10 minutes. The test load shall be placed in such a way as to cause the maximum stress.

Variable capacity lifting equipment in the critical situation prescribed by the designer or, in the absence of a specification, at least in the maximum and minimum working load situations, shall be tested at 1,25 times the working load allowed in that situation.

During the investigation, and afterwards, it must be checked that there has been no harmful damage to the structural parts and that the degree of deformation (e.g. maximum deflection) is below the permissible value (according to the instructions for use or calculated ex post, etc.) and does not endanger further safe operation.

After the examination the load-bearing structure should be checked closely to ensure that it is not damaged.

The deflection (elastic and possibly residual) measured during the test and the displacement of the hydraulic elements are given in in the inspection report must be given in mm. The measured value shall be accompanied by the magnitude of the allowable deformation or displacement on which the comparison is based.

When statically testing bridge sections the crane must be positioned above the crane runway underpinning and the gantry crane must be positioned at the maximum deflection of the crane bridge.

Static analysis of the cantilever bridge crane the amount of elastic deflection and permanent deformation shall be checked both between the crane legs and at the end of the bracket.

Structural analysis of a jumbo crane shall be carried out with the minimum and maximum boom extension corresponding to the minimum stability of the crane.

If there is one on the lift overload protection, it shall be taken out of service for the duration of the static test and then returned to the specified working condition.During the static test, the overload protection shall be activated either by increasing the lifted mass or by increasing the torque to check the overload protection.

The load operating the overload protector shall be compared with the data in the instructions for use and used to determine whether it is operating as specified.

It is also necessary to check that the overload protector is operating according to the instructions for use (signalling, stopping or maintaining the operation of the movement).
